Our Mission
Putnam Plastics was founded in August, 1975 by Marvin Query and Bob Callahan in a two car garage attached to Marvin’s home. The business quickly grew and was moved into a 40X40 pole barn type building which housed three extrusion lines and one small bag machine. A few months later, the building was expanded to include an office, a small storage area, and additional bag machines.
In March, 1978, with business continuing to rapidly expand, land was purchased in Cloverdale, Indiana. By July of that year, we were ready to move into our new building, and became incorporated in the State of Indiana that December.
We published our first Putnam Plastics Stock Catalog in 1988. As orders continued to roll in, production and sales exceeded all expectations, enabling the purchase of our Altamont, Illinois facility by February, 1989. All stock production was moved to Altamont, and Cloverdale became our Custom Division.
In June, 1991, we acquired our Farm Products division in Ohio. This expansion added drawstring capabilities. As our business continued to grow, a geographical expansion for our Custom and Stock programs was made in October, 1992 with the purchase of the Gadsden, Alabama facility. Gadsden gave us more efficient coverage of the southern United States.
Over the years we have added three new warehouses, a maintenance shop, and expanded our office space. This allowed us to consolidate our Altamont facility back to Cloverdale for better service to our customers. We presently have three locations serving over 1000 distributors throughout the United States. Putnam Plastics Inc. is a leader in the poly bag industry. At Putnam Plastics, Inc., we provide a variety of services that make things easier for you. Hundreds of poly bag styles and sizes are ready for immediate shipment from our stock division. Our custom poly bag division is capable of producing bags from 3" to 48" wide with printing up to 4 colors. All bag sizes are available FDA if requested on your purchase order.
